Food Business Pathways

Food Business Pathways is a FREE business accelerator program created to empower NYCHA public housing residents and NYCHA Section 8 voucher holders to start and grow food businesses as part of New York City’s efforts to support entrepreneurs in the city’s neighborhoods and communities.
The goals of the program are:
- To assist NYCHA residents in becoming “commercial kitchen ready”
- Teach you how to lead a profitable food and dessert company
- Provide mentorship and professional coaching opportunities
- Educate you on how to obtain the licenses needed to grow your business
Application and Selection Process
Food Business Pathways (FBP) has a competitive, multi-step application process. Applicants are evaluated on their qualifications and demonstrated interest.
Participants are selected through a competitive application and interview process that involves all program partners. Selections are based on food-related work/volunteer experience, business history, preliminary business outline or plan, references, and applicants who demonstrate an “entrepreneurial spirit” during interviews.
Minimum Basic Requirements
- Be a NYCHA public housing resident or NYCHA Section 8 voucher holder 18 years of age or older.
- Be able to attend all evening program and class sessions.*
- Able to create quality dishes or desserts, or have a business partner with that skill
- Seeking to start or grow their food/dessert business into a full-time venture
- Have a passion for food/desserts and starting or growing a culinary business.
- Technology – This is a virtual training program that requires participants to have either a computer or tablet with reliable internet access.
* Childcare and other logistical issues must be resolved prior to enrollment into the FBP.
Note: The Food Business Pathways program does not provide stipends or other financial supports.
