NYCHA Health Corps

The NYCHA Health Corps (NHC) is designed to:

Create pathways for NYCHA residents into public and preventive health careers
Advance community wellness within NYCHA communities

In 2021, AmeriCorps and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Public Health AmeriCorps funding to support the recruitment, training, and development of the next generation of public health leaders. The NYCHA Health Corps was launched in 2022.

About the NYCHA Health Corps

Each NHC Member will be assigned to work at a host site organization.
Host sites will be public or non-profit organizations working to advance one or more targeted health areas.
As a Corps Member, you will have a Member Assignment Description that outlines your role for the service term.
Corps Members will perform 1,200 hours of service during a 9-month service term.
During this time, you will also receive training, mentorship, and other career development and social support.

Member Requirements and Expectations

Must be an authorized NYCHA public housing or Section 8 resident
18 years or older
Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Commitment to 1,200 hours/ 9 months of service
Serve 35 hours per week
Work on specific tasks and projects outlined in the position description
Participate in mandatory learning and development trainings, courses, and events throughout the program term
Adhere to AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities
