  • NRTA East Harlem Community Health Worker (CHW) Training

    liza-jones-the-deployed-resiliency-counselorThe NYCHA Resident Training Academy (NRTA), administered by NYCHA’s Office of Resident Economic Empowerment & Sustainability (REES), provides employment-linked training opportunities and job placement assistance to NYCHA residents.

    REES is excited to announce a new pilot training initiative in East Harlem in partnership with LaGuardia Community College to recruit and train NYCHA residents to become Community Health Workers (CHWs).

    CHWs are frontline public health professionals who connect participants community clinical and social service supports.

    Community Health Workers will also directly impact participants’ ability to advocate for appropriate care and healthy neighborhood conditions

    This Program Offers:

    • FREE 13-week hybrid training (online or in person) in Health and Wellness, Social Justice, Community Resources and more
    • Work based learning experience with Stipends
    • MetroCard assistance
    • Industry focused job readiness classes and employment referrals for graduates

    Program Requirements:

    • High school diploma/GED
    • Eligible to Work in the U.S.
    • Authorized NYCHA resident
