    English Speakers Of Other Languages (ESOL)

    For anyone interested in English Language Learning, there are many programs that can help NYCHA residents.

    Pre-High School Equivalency (Pre-GED)

    Pre-HSE programs are available for NYCHA residents interested in preparing for the HSE exam. Based on how you score on the placement test, you may be enrolled in a Pre-HSE course to help you advance toward a HSE class.

    High School Equivalency (HSE/GED)

    HSE programs prepare people to pass the GED exam leading to obtaining the High School Equivalency Diploma. This diploma benefits job seekers as well as people interested in enrolling in training programs and college.

    Who can enroll in a program?

    • New York State Residents (NYS)  who are 17 years or older.
    • Does not have a High School Diploma or Equivalency.

    Key Documents

    • Copy of your GED or TASC transcript, if applicable.
    • Copy of NYS Regents scores, if applicable.
    • Copy of a current, unexpired government issued photo ID.
    • Testers must be residents of NYS for at least 30 days prior to testing.
