NYCHA Residents, ages 18 years and older, interested in obtaining their High School Equivalency (HSE/GED), Adult Basic Education, or English classes, are invited to learn more about the free classes provided by the Queens Public Library (QPL) this Spring 2025. Queens Public Library representatives will provide an overview about the following classes and the application process to join a scheduled class beginning in April.

Free Adult Education Classes (available for adults, ages 18 years and older):

  • High School Equivalency (GED classes)
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Adult Basic Education

Free Young Adult Learning Services (YALS; available for young adults up to 24 years old):

Work towards your High School Equivalency in a supportive, collaborative, and holistic environment with YALS. YALS offers:

  • Classes in the four GED subject areas (Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies), with one day of case management a week
  • Free transportation with a complimentary Metro Card
  • Paid internships, college tours and job readiness programs
  • Small tutorial groups for reading, writing, and math
  • Independent study options using computer software, audio, and other multimedia available at QPL
  • Stipends, field trips, and additional incentives
  • Workshops for job readiness and leadership skills
  • Referrals for internships and employment
  • Individualized attention from supportive, caring instructors and case managers

  2. Once you are logged in, Click “Manage Yor Account.”
  3. Click “Opportunity Connect” on the bottom left side.
  4. Click “Upcoming Events “on the left side.
  5. Select “Query.”
  6. Go to the “Event Name” 
  7. Type exactly as shown here (case sensitive): QPL Adult Learning Classes 3-25-2025 
  8. Press Enter.
  9. Click “View Details.“
  10. Click “RSVP“
  11. Check your email for confirmation once you RSVP. Check “My Events” to see all of your scheduled events.
