Community Impact at Columbia University is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering and supporting residents of Morningside Heights, Harlem, and Washington Heights. Through education, health, youth development, food assistance, and other community-based programs, Community Impact connects individuals and families with valuable resources and opportunities to learn, grow, and build brighter futures.

Community Impact offers  

Adult Education

  • ESOL Classes — Free English classes offered in 6 levels, daytime or evening.
  • GED / Fast Track — Free GED prep, including full GED classes, GED/Shortcut for students missing 1–2 subjects, and Spanish GED
  • Free Hospitality Training Prepare for a career in hospitality! Gain valuable food service, customer-service, and job-readiness skills designed to help you confidently enter the workforce.

HOW TO REGISTER:

Follow these steps to register for this event in Opportunity Connect on the NYCHA self-service portal:

Register for online access and/or log in to the NYCHA self-service portal https://selfserve.nycha.info/

  1. Once you are logged in, click on “Manage Your Account.”
  2. Click on the “Opportunity Connect” icon.
  3. Go to “Upcoming Events” on the left menu.
  4. Select Community Impact 8-4-2026 on the list of upcoming events and click on “view details”.
  5. You must read and confirm the “Information Sharing and Consent Statement” to continue to the final RSVP step.
  6. Click “RSVP”.

Check your email for confirmation once you RSVP. Note: In Opportunity Connect you can check “My Events” on the left menu at any time to see all your scheduled events. You can also cancel or reschedule.
