College Scholarships

NYCHA-CUNY Resident Scholarship Program

Since 2005, NYCHA has annually launched scholarships to support its residents in advancing their education and increasing their income and assets. Each scholarship provides a one-time $1,000 award to recipients. The scholarships aim to assist eligible residents pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees at a City University of New York (CUNY) college. Below are scholarships categories awarded in prior years:

  • Regina A. Figueroa Memorial
  • Kisha Jackson Memorial
  • Levine Family Scholarship
  • Kofi Hormeku Scholarship
  • Amazon NYCHA-CUNY Scholarship
  • Rise Light & Power Scholarship
  • National Grid
  • The City Council of New York

Eligibility Criteria: Authorized NYCHA public housing residents and Section 8 tenants; current continuous enrollment at a CUNY college, full-time graduate and/or undergraduate students; 24 or more credits; minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. This is a competitive scholarship application process reviewed by committee.

The 2026 NYCHA-CUNY Resident Scholarship is now Closed

Everyone must apply online under their own name via the NYCHA self-service portal. If you don’t already have access, you must create a username and password.  If you have any questions or need to request additional information, please send an email to scholarships@nycha.nyc.gov.

Other Scholarship Opportunities

Queensbridge/Ravenswood Scholarship Fund

Former residents of Queensbridge and Ravenswood Houses have established and manage a private scholarship fund to support the academic endeavors of current residents from those two developments. Scholarship awards are $500.00 and approximately four scholarships will be distributed.

Eligibility Criteria:

All of the following rules are applicable:

  • Applicants must be in the second, third or final year of obtaining their undergraduate college degree (freshman are excluded) or pursuing a graduate degree.
  • Applicants must be residents of Queensbridge or Ravenswood houses.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in the upcoming school semester with a minimum of twelve (12) college credits.  Exceptions will be made for applicants that need less than twelve (12) credits to complete their degree and for graduate students.
  • Applicants must complete the application in its entirety and are required to answer the essay question.

Application Process

  1. Email completed application by September 26, 2025 to: qbsfrobertcummingsaward@gmail.com.
  2. A contact telephone number is mandatory for all applicants.
  3. Winners will be notified by October 3, 2025.
  4. The Queensbridge Scholarship committee will not be responsible for late or ineligible applications that cannot be evaluated.
  5. Any applicant that submits fraudulent information will automatically be disqualified. Award disbursements can be rescinded at any time prior to payment if the committee determines that fraudulent information was submitted. All information will be verified.
  6. All applicants are REQUIRED to include supporting documentation as part of the submission process. This includes up-to-date transcripts as well as proof of enrollment for fall ’25 semester.
