BWI’s mission is to empower low-income New Yorkers by creating living-wage employment opportunities and access to career paths. Their programs counter prevailing market inequalities, especially those based on race or gender, and contribute to a broader movement for economic justice.
This information session will be virtual on Zoom, and you will receive the zoom link a week prior to the session
Below are the four programs they are currently recruiting for during this information session you will learn about the following:
- Brooklyn Networks
- Brooklyn Networks is a free, six-week training program that helps low-income New Yorkers access careers in low-voltage cabling in NYC. Graduates obtain their industry-recognized BICSI credential and go on to work in fields like voice and data cabling, security system installation, broadcast cabling, and A/V system installation.
- Requirements
- NYC Resident
- 18 Years or Older
- Ability to Commit to Full Time Training
- KindWorks
- KindWork helps talented young adults ages 20-26, who have in-person customer services experience, launch new careers in the tech industry. The 6-week training covers industry-standard customer support software platforms to prepare students for work in Customer Experience, Customer Support, or Customer Success careers in the tech sector.
- Requirements:
- 20-26 years old
- Must have a High School Equivalency or High School Diploma
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
- Live in New York City
- Red Hook On The Road- Commercial (CDL Class B) Driving:
- Red Hook on the Road helps unemployed New Yorkers who already have their Class D license start new careers in commercial driving in NYC, earning their Class B CDL License. Following four weeks of classroom and behind-the-wheel training, students take the NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) road test.
- Requirements:
- Must be unemployed – no part-time or gig-employment (Uber, Grub Hub, etc.)
- 21 years or older
- Live in New York City and be legally eligible to work in the U.S.
- Obtain and submit a driver record from the DMV that must be less than 30 days old
- Able to attend training Monday-Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Must be able to pass a drug test
- Absolutely no DWIs or DUIs
- Made in NY Production Assistant Training
- The “Made in NY” Production Assistant Training Program helps low-income New York City residents get their foot in the door of the dynamic world of film and television. No previous production experience is required. Applicants who do not have a high school diploma, GED, or college degree are encouraged to apply.
- Requirements:
- At least 18 years old
- Have a valid driver’s license (out-of-state licenses accepted.)
- Current New York City residents ONLY
- Underemployed, Unemployed, or low-income
- Legally eligible to work in the U.S
- Available full-time and able to attend the four-week training program (Monday through Friday, 7:30am-6pm)

Once you have enrolled to attend the information session. You will receive an email confirming your enrollment with the ZOOM LINK attached to attend information session. If you do not receive link at least a day before the date of event, please contact Tammy Truman.
Please be sure to arrive at least 10 minutes early.

Register for online access and/or log in to the NYCHA self-service portal https://selfserve.nycha.info/
- Once you are logged in, click on “Manage Your Account.”
- Click on the “Opportunity Connect” icon.
- Go to “Upcoming Events” on the left menu.
- Select Brooklyn Workforce Initiatives 2-19-2026 on the list of upcoming events and click on “view details”.
- You must read and confirm the “Information Sharing and Consent Statement” to continue to the final RSVP step.
- Click “RSVP”.
Check your email for confirmation once you RSVP. Note: In Opportunity Connect you can check “My Events” on the left menu at any time to see all your scheduled events. You can also cancel or reschedule.
