First Course NYC is an apprenticeship program that teaches the culinary skills necessary for a career as a line cook. This 14-week program includes eight weeks of classroom kitchen training delivered by experienced Chefs/Instructors, followed by six weeks of on-the-job training in respected New York City restaurants.

Interested? NYCHA residents are invited to attend a virtual info session where you will learn more about the program requirements and complete an online application. If your application is accepted, you will be invited to participate in a Tryout Day and interviews with Employer Partners. The goal of First Course NYC is to seamlessly transition participants into a full-time Line Cook position at a NYC restaurant at the end of the program.

You will need to attend an information session to apply.

Follow these steps to register for this event in the NYCHA self-service portal – https://selfserve.nycha.info/

1. Register for online access & log-in to self-service portal https://selfserve.nycha.info/which will allow you to manage your own events.
2. Once you are logged in, Click “View Details.”
3. Click “Opportunity Connect” on the bottom left side.
4. Click “Upcoming Events” on the left side.
5. Select “Query.”
6. Go to the “Event Name” column.
7. Type exactly as shown here (case sensitive): NYC SBS Workforce Development 5-12-2022
8. Press Enter.
9. Click “View Details.“
10. Click “RSVP.“
11. Check your email for confirmation once you RSVP. Check “My Events” to see all of your scheduled events.
