NYCHA Resident Training Academy

THIS FREE PRE-APPRENTICESHIP P RO G R A M will lead to industry certifications and support in accessing paid apprentice positions with Roofer’s Union Local 8. Career-path opportunities with excellent pay and benefits will follow for qualified graduates.

R Train to 9th Street/ F or G to 4th Avenue

PARTICIPANTS WILL OBTAIN INSTRUCTION IN:

  • Construction Math and Measurement
  • Tool Usage
  • 70 hours of roofing instruction in a lab environment
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • 16-hour scaffolding certification

M I N I M U M  R E Q U I R E M E N T S :

  • 18 and over
  • Completed 10th grade (transcript required)
  • Pass a math and reading exam
  • A NYCHA resident (on the lease) in Red Hook, Gowanus, Sheepshead Bay, Coney Island, The Rockaways, The Lower East Side, or Canarsie
  • Pass a drug test at the start of training as required by Roofers Union Local 8
  • Comfortable with extreme heights

T R A I N I N G  D E T A I L S:

Training start date: June 18th

Length of training: 4-5 weeks

Location: To be determined

Stipend will be provided to program graduates
