About Workforce Development
The New York City Housing Authority’s (NYCHA) Office of Resident Economic Empowerment and Sustainability (REES) has partnerships with workforce development programs that prepare NYCHA residents for job opportunities and vocational skills development. Workforce development programs should not be confused with employment agencies or direct employers that provide immediate hiring opportunities.
REES workforce development program partners can help NYCHA residents:
- Ease the transition from unemployment to employment
- Retain their jobs longer and keep their skills current
- Develop job search techniques and strategies
- Find and resolve barriers that may hinder a job seeker from achieving employment
- Obtain vocational skills training and referrals to local employer networks and help residents keep the jobs they earn
Here are the types of services a resident can expect when participating in a workforce development program with a REES partner:
- Create an electronic resume and receive interview preparation
- Participate in career counseling sessions and create a plan to achieve employment
- Receive access to computer labs to conduct job searches, setup and check email accounts, etc.
- Pre-screening services for immediate employment opportunities
- Job placement assistance for entry-level and mid-skill job opportunities
- Post placement services, such as managing anxiety, financial counseling, and career advancement opportunities
